Smyths Toys Saving Hacks & Tips
Next day delivery worked for me
I ordered from Smyths Toys before the delivery cutoff, so it turned up the next day like it said it would. Handy if you’ve suddenly realised you forgot a birthday present and need something fast...
Smyths can actually be cheaper than Amazon
I’ve got into the habit of checking Smyths before I order toys now. I used to just compare Amazon and Argos, but a few times Smyths has come out cheaper, especilly on the bigger stuff like playsets or outdoor toys. Def worth a quick price check before buying
Christmas shopping felt a lot easier this year
I ended up getting most of the kids’ Christmas toys from Smyths this year, and it made things so much less stressful. They had a good range and I managed to tick off a lot in one go. My only advice is not to leave it too late, because the popular toys definitely disappear fast. Overall, I’d happily use Smyths again for Christmas shopping.
Tracking was all over the place
Had a bit of a weird one with Smyths Toys. My parcel was late and the tracking barely changed, so I was just left guessing where it actually was. It did turn up in the end, but the whole time I kept getting those vague polished updates that sound reassuring without really telling you anything. Would’ve much preferred a plain honest update saying it was delayed and where it actually was.
Refund took a bit longer than I thought
I returned something to Smyths Toys and, yeah, the return itself was accepted without any issue. The only thing was the refund wasn’t instant or anything — it took a few days longer than I expected. Not a huge problem, just something to keep in mind if you’re waiting on the money to come back.
Dodged the delivery fee with one tiny toy
I was just under the free delivery amount on Smyths Toys, so I threw in a small toy to push it over the threshold. it felt far less tragic than handing over money for delivery and getting absolutely nothing fun in return.
Wish Smyths had a rewards scheme
I’m in Smyths a fair bit throughout the year buying birthday presents and bits for the kids, so it’s a bit frustrating that there’s no points or rewards system. I keep waiting for them to bring in something like birthday vouchers or money-off points, but nothing ever seems to happen. Would be nice to feel like regular customers get a little something back.
Hot Wheels set held up better than I expected
I picked up a Hot Wheels set from Smyths a while back, can’t remember the exact one, just that my kid was absolutely set on it. it’s been decent. They’ve been rough with it, cars flying everywhere and all that, and it’s still holding up fine. I’m sure there was some annoying bit when putting it together, but I’ve chosen to forget that part.
Pre-order had me stressing a bit
I pre-ordered a game from smythstoys.com and I was lowkey stressing, checking way too often to see if it would actually ship on time. It did show up when it was meant to, so all good in the end, but the updates were kinda slow and had me wondering what was going on.
Wait for the toy sales if you can
I’ve learned not to buy from Smyths straight away unless I really need it. The prices seem to drop around sales now and then, because apparently whoever runs this likes to keep us guessing. Waiting a bit has saved me a few quid more than once.
One item was missing
I ordered a few bits from Smyths Toys and when the box arrived, one of the small toys just wasn’t in there. It was a bit annoying because everything else was fine, but I still had to get in touch with support to sort it out. Not a huge disaster, but definitely a little frustrating.
Click and collect was quick, but the updates were vague
I ordered from Smyths online and picked it up after work. The actual collection was really quick — the staff found my order straight away and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. The only annoying bit was the communication beforehand, because the emails weren’t very clear about when it was actually ready to collect. Once I got there though, it was totally fine...
Feels way safer than buying off marketplace
I usually get Pokémon cards and LEGO from Smyths because it just feels more legit to me. There’s way less of that “is this fake?” stress you get with marketplace sellers, which is half the battle. Plus, I don’t have to play detective over every listing, so that’s a bonus...
Voucher only kicked in after a minimum spend
I tried using a voucher on smythstoys.com and only realised it had a minimum spend when it wouldn’t apply to my basket. Bit frustrating, especially when you think you’re getting a discount, but to be fair it did flag it up before I got to the payment stage, so at least I didn’t get caught out after ordering.
Box was a bit bashed up
Ordered a LEGO set from smythstoys.com and it did arrive fine inside, but the box was dented/crushed on one side. Bit annoying really because it was suppose to be a gift, so it didn’t look great handing it over like that.
So many toy brands all in one spot
I’ve found Smyths really handy because they’ve got LEGO, Barbie, Pokémon, games and loads of other stuff all in the same place, so when I’m trying to sort gifts I don’t end up bouncing between a bunch of different sites and getting annoyed, I can just add a few things to the basket and be done with it.
That one Smyths stock check still annoys me
I still remember the one time Smyths’ website said a toy was in stock, so I made the trip feeling all pleased with myself… only to get there and find out it wasn’t actually there. Such a letdown, honestly. I can still picture standing in the aisle a bit deflated after getting my hopes up. Since then, I always try to call the store first if it’s something I really need.
Wish they’d hold click and collect a bit longer
I do like using click and collect at Smyths because it’s quick and saves wandering around the shop, but the pickup window feels way too short. They only hold it for two days, which is annoying if you’ve got work, kids, or just a packed week. I’ve had to rush over before like it was some urgent mission, when really I just wanted to grab a toy I’d already paid for.
My return was pretty easy 🙂
I took an unopened toy back to Smyths in store and it was all straightforward. The staff sorted it without any hassle. Just a little tip: keep the box in good condition if you think you might return it 👍
Code worked for me at checkout
I tried a discount code on Smyths assuming it would probably do the usual thing and not work, but it actually went through at checkout. It wasn’t a huge saving or anything, but I always figure any money off is better than paying full price
